Dubai Towers Dubai was a four tower complex to be built in the city of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The developer, Sama Dubai, intended this to form the center piece of The Lagoons, a mega project located on Dubai Creek which was to consist of seven islands. The towers have between 57 to 94 stories and although the heights are not known, it is believed the tallest would top 400 meters (1,310 ft) while two others would rise beyond 300 meters (980 ft).

 Dubai is home to yet another record breaking tower. The one billion dirham Cayan Tower, previously known as Infinity Tower, was inaugurated on Monday.

According to its developer, Cayan Real Estate Investment and Development Company, which has operations in Dubai and Saudi Arabia, the 307-meter-high tower holds the record for the tallest twisted architectural creation in the world.

The Dubai City Tower, also known as the Dubai Vertical City, is a proposed skyscraper design announced on 25 August 2008. The building, created by an architect to display possibly future technologies, is the third tallest building ever fully envisioned after the X-Seed 4000 (4000m) and the Ultima Tower (3217m). If ever constructed, the Dubai City Tower will be much taller than any other current man-made structure, at almost three times the height of the Burj Khalifa. The Dubai City Tower would be almost seven times taller than the Empire State Building.

 The unusual form of the building presented various challenges for its designers – Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM) – and developers. The concrete structure rotates a hexagonal floor plate around a circular core and the top of the tower is offset 90 degrees from the base. Corner and interior columns of the tower twist as they ascend, but most of the perimeter columns were shifted by a just a bit more than a single degree, from floor to floor, resulting in a standardised construction method typical to most large towers. As well as distinguishing the building, the twist also greatly reduces wind force on the tower.

Mohamed Alabbar said yesterday he was considering building a tower taller than both the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the Kingdom Tower, under construction in Jeddah.
“I think we might try to do something a little taller,” he said. “Technology has really improved, the value of tall buildings in the world is really important commercially. We have learnt how to make money out of tall buildings.”

Asked where the building might be located, Mr Alabbar said: “Maybe Dubai needs another tall building.”

With an inauguration of the Cayan Tower, Dubai's superlative-filled skyline now also houses the world's tallest twisted tower. 
Cayan Tower was originally to be called Infinity Tower but the name was rejected once it emerged that other structures already shared the name.

 Although the building is likely to attract a lot of attention, it isn’t SOM’s most significant contribution to the Dubai skyline. The firm is also responsible for the design of the city’s Burj Khalifa.
